Order a belt 2 inches (5 cm) larger than your waist size. A 30" waist takes a 32" belt, a 34" waist takes a 36" belt. Between sizes? Size up. The chart below converts waist measurements to belt sizes in both US inches and European centimetres.

What size belt do I need for my waist?
The same rule, written out for the sizes people ask about most. Waist first, belt size second, in inches and in centimetres.
- 30 inch waist: 32" belt (80 cm)
- 32 inch waist: 34" belt (85 cm)
- 34 inch waist: 36" belt (90 cm)
- 36 inch waist: 38" belt (95 cm)
- 38 inch waist: 40" belt (100 cm)
- 40 inch waist: 42" belt (105 cm)
- 42 inch waist: 44" belt (110 cm)
- 44 inch waist: 46" belt (115 cm)
- 46 inch waist: 48" belt (120 cm)
If your waist is an odd number, 33 or 35 for example, round up to the next belt size in the list: a 33 takes a 36" belt, a 35 takes a 38".
How belt sizes work
A belt size is not the length of the strap. It is the distance from the fold where the leather wraps around the buckle to the middle hole, so a 36" belt measures 36 inches (90 cm) from the buckle fold to the centre of its five holes. The two holes either side give you 2.5 cm (1 inch) of adjustment each way, which is why one size covers a two-inch waist range. European sizes simply state that same buckle-to-middle-hole length in centimetres: 90 is a 36" belt, 95 is a 38", 100 is a 40". Every COLDFIRE belt has five holes spaced 2.5 cm apart and is sized this way.
How to measure your waist
- Thread a soft measuring tape through the belt loops of the pants you actually wear. Keep the tape snug, not tight.
- Read where the tape meets - this is your waist size, not your belt size.
- Add 2 inches (5 cm) and round up to the nearest size in the chart above.

What size belt should I get?
Your waist measurement plus 2 inches (5 cm), rounded up to the nearest even size. A 32 waist takes a 34 belt, a 34 waist takes a 36, a 36 waist takes a 38. If you measured with a tape through your belt loops rather than reading your trouser label, the number is more accurate, because trouser sizes often run a size small.
What size belt for a 34 inch waist?
A 36 inch belt, which is a European size 90. The same rule gives a 32 waist a 34" belt (85), a 36 waist a 38" belt (95) and a 38 waist a 40" belt (100).
Is belt size the same as pant size?
No. A belt wraps around more layers than your pants do. Always order 2 inches (5 cm) above your pant size.
What if I am between two sizes?
Choose the larger size. A belt with spare room works; a short belt does not.
How do I measure the size of a belt I already own?
Lay it flat and measure from the fold at the buckle to the hole you actually use. Do not include the buckle itself and do not measure to the tip. That figure, in inches or centimetres, is the belt size to order.
What is a European belt size 90, 95 or 100 in US sizes?
European belt sizes are the belt length in centimetres. Size 90 is a 36" US belt (34 to 35" waist), size 95 is a 38" belt (36 to 37" waist), size 100 is a 40" belt (38 to 39" waist). Size 75 and 80 both correspond to a 32" belt for a 30 to 31" waist. The full conversion is in the chart above.
